June 29: Contracts To Be Let For Dike And Levee Removal
KCSi-T.V. News Jamestown, ND -- (KCSi-T.V. News) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Jamestown officials are meeting this week to discuss details of bid specifications to let bids for dike and levee removal.
On Monday's (June 29th) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable Channel 2, Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist said, it's hope that by July 1st, bids will be advertised, and by July 6th bids awarded for the flood protection removal, and debris removal in Jamestown. He says the contract will likely have a 30-day flood protection removal time frame, and will include flood protection installed by the Corps, National Guard and city volunteers this spring. Those include sandbag dikes earthen levees, flood walls, and HESCO units.
Later this week, the City of Jamestown will announce scenarios for those who have privately installed flood protection on their property.
The city is also asking those in the Dairy Queen area of Southwest Jamestown to keep floor drains plugged until futher notice.
Bergquist added, that the final sewer lift station was put back on line Tuesday (June23rd) so all lifts are pumping into the system, and none are pumping into the river. He said that thanks to the voluntary compliance with the odd-even calendar/address usage of more moderate amounts going into the drains, the main sewer lift is holding at about 5-and a half to 6 million gallons of waste pumping per day. Residents are asked to continue to observe the odd-even plan, until the main lift is pumping no more that 4-million gallons per day.
