Apr 29 Storm Sewer Backs Up At 10th St. SE
Weds Noontime
KCSi-T.V. News Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) -- About noon Wednesday April 29th, city crews responded to a storm sewer backup that covered a portion of 10th Street SE with several inches of water. The area was between 4th Avenue Southeast and about 6th Avenue Southeast. The water entered the north entrance to Park Plaza and formed two large pools in the lot. City Crews narrowed the 10th Street access to the outside driving lanes, and coned and barricaided the area under water.
City Engineer Reed Schwartzkopf says, to prevent the overflow from happening, early Wedneday morning, the City placed a large pump next to the river near the intersection of 10 Street Southeast and First Avenue South. He says despite the pumping, the area was saturated with storm water, as a heavy rain event had occurred.
He says city officials are not sure why the incident occurred, and are investigating.
