Apr 27 Corp Increases Release From Jamestown Dam
Mon Afternoon
KCSi-T.V. News
OMAHA Releases were increased at Jamestown Reservoir by 100 cfs at 7:15 a.m. Monday Apr 27th, and increased again by 100 cfs at 12:15 p.m. Jamestown Reservoir releases are now 1,700 cfs from outlet works and spillway and releases from Pipestem Dam remain at 1,400 cfs for a combined release of 3,100 cfs.
Decreased reservoir setup and decrease of runoff from rainfall allowed for the increase in releases. Over the next several days, if weather conditions permit, the Corps intends to gradually increase releases at Jamestown Reservoir towards the target release of 1,800 cfs. Releases from Pipestem Reservoir will remain at 1400 cfs.
There are now small spillway flows through the morning glory spillway at Jamestown Reservoir. As these flows occur, the releases from the outlet works on the other side of the dam are decreased so the total release (outlet works + spillway) is at the target level.
Around-the-clock surveillance of the levees is being conducted by teams of National
Guard Soldiers and Corps experts walking the levees to check for any seepage or
damage. The Guard has two rapid response teams that can respond with sandbags and
equipment if necessary.
Continuous surveillance at the dams confirms that they remain safe. Dam safety experts
from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation are reading monitoring instruments and measuring relief wells around the clock and express confidence that the dams are performing well.
