World's Largest Buffalo Receives Name

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) -- On Saturday afternoon (Jul 24, 2010) The World's Largest Buffalo statue at Frontier Village in Jamestown, officially received his name, "Dakota Thunder." After the dedication, a check presentation was made to Michael Shirek, of Mandan, the winner of the Name That Buffalo Contest. Recognition was given to the four contest runners-up.
Runners-up in the Name That Buffalo contest were Dakotah Spirit, submitted by Audre Goll of Bismarck, Benny submitted by Jennifer Wagner of Jamestown, Sir James submitted by Karen Jorgenson of Parshall and Beauford submitted by Sarah Holle of Bismarck.

Buffalo City Tourism Director, Nina Sneider noted that 3,500 entries included countries as far away as the UK, Greece, the Philippines, Sweden New Guinea and from Canada, and a number of other countries. 500 entries came in from 35 states. 63 percent of the entries were from North Dakota, and 23 percent were from Jamestown.
Through the courtesy of CSi Cable, a group video, under the buffalo, will be submitted to ABC's Good Morning America for their 'three little words' segment that airs on Saturday mornings. (World's Largest Buffalo).
Buffalo City Tourism Director, Nina Sneider said, 3,500 entries were submitted.
Thanks to the voting on the name, in the Jamestown area, $610.00 has been donated toward landscaping at the World's Largest Buffalo Monument.
Games at Frontier Village continue after the dedication.
