Newman Outdoor To Install Billboards Touting Maris
"Legitimate" Home Run King
FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Newman Outdoor Advertising plans to put up a
pair of billboards in Fargo touting Roger Maris as baseball's
"legitimate" home run king.
The record of 61 homes runs in a season set by the late Yankees
great who grew up in Fargo has been eclipsed by three players, but
those feats have been clouded by suspicion or admission of steroids
use.
Company owner Harold Newman says he believes Maris is the only
player to legitimately break Babe Ruth's single-season home run
record.
