Judge Hears Pipeline Arguments
Ruling Coming
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A judge has heard arguments in Bismarck from opponents of a crude oil pipeline that would run through eastern North Dakota.
The Dakota Resource Council and six landowners have gone to court to challenge the TransCanada Keystone. The state Public Service Commission granted a permit for the route in February.
South Central District Judge Gail Hagerty heard arguments from both sides yesterday. She says she'll try to rule in about 10 days.
An attorney for the pipeline opponents, Jana Lindermann, says the PSC should do a more detailed analysis of other routes for the pipeline.
The company's attorney, Thomas Kelsch, said other routes could involve more disruption of cropland and the loss of trees. He also said a delay could cause more than 100 million dollars in damage to the company.
