Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) -- The Jamestown Area Grief Support Team is
offering the 3rd Annual, “Camp Release,” a grief camp for youth ages 9-16-years old.
On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable Channel 2, Wendy Hournbuckle said, the
camp is for young people who have experienced the death of someone important in their
life.
The Camp runs from July 18-20th, at Red Willow Camp, near Binford.
She points out that children often get lost in the shuffle when they are grieving. Their
friends are usually too young to understand what the child is going through, and children
are likely to keep their feelings of grief to themselves. They often experience anger,
frustration, abandonment, hurt, sadness, loneliness, depression, and confusion.
Also on our show, Carol Arnold said, a Camp activity includes the “love/anger wall,”
along with journaling, group discussions, and a service of remembrance.
Although there will not be professional counseling at the camp, the staff, most Jamestown
Area Grief Support Team, members are familiar with the Grief Companioning philosophy
and ready and willing to offer a compassionate ear.
In addition to the grief work, fun camp activities are planned, including: water activities, a
pool party, crafts, games, camp fires and other camping favorites.
There will be a lifeguard and registered nurse as part of the staff. Parents will be invited
to join their child for the final camp activities, on that Sunday.
The cost of the Camp is 100-dollars, and full or partial scholarships are available.
To receive a brochure with a registration form and more information, call Charlotte at
701-952-9358 or Eileen at 701-251-1280.
The registration deadline is July 7th.
